II. General Bid'ness

At the top of our semester's main page, you will find links to the days of class now.  Hopefully this helps more. You will notice that there are updated readings on the website from the paper calendar in your workbook.

• We begin BANNED BOOKS on October 9.  Please make sure you have signed up by the end of today (click here), even if you don't know what you are choosing yet.

All The Hype... from Tristan

As a university, we acknowledge the many benefits we have of being in this place. It is a space we share with all living beings, human and non-human. It is an ancient space where others have lived before us. The monument created jointly by TCU and the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes reminds us of our benefits, responsibilities, and relationships. We pause to reflect on its words: This ancient land, for all our relations. We respectfully acknowledge all Native American peoples who have lived on this land since time immemorial. TCU especially acknowledges and pays respect to the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, upon whose historical homeland our university is located.

(Short Version) TCU acknowledges the many benefits, responsibilities, and relationships of being in this place, which we share with all living beings. 1. Define decolonization for yourself using la paperson (and more)
2. Define settler colonization--- both past and present
3. How will you use these lenses? If you will not, why not? (not a judgement, just a request for clarity)​

 Last Week's Take-Aways 

• Decolonization is nuanced, specific, contextual, and land-oriented
• From "Matters of concerns" TO "matters of care"
• Curriculum studies is married w/ settler futurity
• Higher education is invested in colonization
• Decolonization is intentional and mindful in its rhetorical purpose
• Decolonization makes us ask: what/who is innocent? what is our responsibility for the past?

​Yes, as in pick your own avatar for your work as teacher/scholar/academic.  Name them.  See them. Be them.  Theorize AS them, not like them. I will read the directions out loud here... a few times.  Write what comes to mind.  Ignore the prompts that don't work for you. Put aside any self-doubting.  What comes to you is perfection, as is.
