Welcome back! We begin with a go-around:

• Describe a place, event or task in the university that truly made you happy or content.  Name it now--- because you are going to have to fight/meditate/practice to keep it in focus and flush the rest out of your system.

III. General Bid'ness

• At the top of our semester's main age, you will find links to the days o class now.  Hopefully this helps more.
• For the next two weeks, we focus on decolonization as a way to make the syllabus's opening land acknowledgement real.  You will notice that there are updated readings on the website from the paper calendar in your workbook. 
• We will spend class time writing our own land acknowledgement statements and studying TCU's history to this end next week.  Click here if you would like to see TCU's 12-page teaching document beforehand.
• We'll sign-up for  banned book projects this week!  You might want to space these out.

IV. "We Are Water Protectors" by Carole Lindstrom & Michaela Goade, first Indigenous winners of the Caldecott in 2020 (continued from last week)

• Read the overview of the banned books project and start linking/thinking about a partner
• The superintendent of Northampton (PA) Area School District (NASD) refused a donation of dozens of books from "The Conscious Kid," a non-profit organization focused on equity and promoting healthy racial identity development after parents complained about the book.  This, in effect, banned We Are Water Protectors in that district though the school board voted to keep the books.
• "Future Ready Librarians" also challenged the book.

V. "Decolonization Is Not a Metaphor": FOUR TAKE-AWAYS
Part I: Write out your FOUR major take-aways (make sure you reference page numbers)
