Welcome to Unit 3 w/ Jayla

This unit, ​" 'Let Me Tell You This, Linda': Black Girl Literacies and Fugitivity" has been named after the bravehearted, little girl --- who we think is named Jayla--- spoke her FULL truth in a pre-K classroom.  Watch the video on this page if you missed this viral moment.  And even if you remember this video, go ahead and watch it again and let Jayla help you "enjoy the rest of [your] liiiiife"!

Jayla emboldens and symbolizes how we will think of and approach Black girl literacies as a space of fugitivity.  We will treat the insistence on freedom, the audacity towards full expression, and a commitment towards self-determination as fundamentally literate--- supra-literate in fact--- endeavors.  While many railed against Jayla for being too grown, we will center her spirit in new possibilities for how we grow scholarship around the limitlessness of Black girls literacies.
